Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement, nothing can be done without hope and confidence – Helen Keller.
The Homework club was launched in 2011 and is the only known active facility of this type in the locality. It is run by qualified experienced teachers and local community volunteers well versed in working with children. Safeguarding of children is taken very seriously; staffs are CRB checked and we ensure that the project delivers on the Every Child Matters Plan. We recognize the need for sustainable partnerships in delivering our programmes and so work with local service providers such as Lifetime, Wandsworth Children and Young People Partnership. Since inception the centre now has over 32 children registered and an offshoot of parents who use the facilities daily to learn IT skills for educational and employment purposes.
We support families such as: single parents, English as second language, special needs and learning difficulties, as well as parents who work long hours by providing team members who can sit with their children and allow them to complete their homework with the support they require.
Some parents don’t have access to computers or internet which is often required for some of the children’s homework and so we are able to provide these resources.
We provide tuition support which these parents can’t afford.
Parents also have the opportunity to use the services to help them improve or learn English, basic computer skills as a way of promoting integration, community cohesion, good citizenship and empowering themselves.
